A native of Michigan, Dr. Schmidt received his medical degree from Michigan State University before completing his residency training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee–where he served as Chief Resident of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Following residency, Dr. Schmidt continued post-graduate training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York City where he served as a Chief Fellow and completed an ACGME accredited fellowship in Pain Management.

In addition to his pain management background, Dr. Schmidt is a board-certified physiatrist and is experienced in sports medicine, post-concussive syndromes, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, stroke rehabilitation, and orthopedic rehabilitation.
